MISSIONARY WORK

Mission to Seafarers Christmas Shoebox Campaign:   Every Christmas we collect shoebox items and send to Mission to Seafarers in Halifax.  This list is deemed as essential items the seafarers generally and personally need onboard—Hat, Scarf or neck warmer, Gloves, Socks, Wrapped hard candy (no chocolate), Soap, Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Shampoo or body wash (no larger than 375ml to fit in a shoebox), Shaving foam, Razors, Deodorant, Lip balm, Playing cards, Souvenir of Canada, Pen/pencil, Small packages of tissues, Comb, Christmas card, Bible (supplied by mission), Mementos of NS, PEI or Canada.
Their team of shoebox experts quality checks the contents of shoeboxes we received if they are already stuffed with items. Otherwise, the items placed in the box are carefully identified and limited only to the above list. The list is deemed as essential items the seafarers generally and personally need onboard.
All shoeboxes are gift-wrapped by a team of volunteers, signifying the gifts are produced with joy, love, and passion, driven by the spirit of Christmas.

You did it — twice!
What an incredible season of generosity and teamwork! Thanks to you, our Solar Suitcase campaign, which included the Wild Ride, reached — and even surpassed — its goal. Together, we raised $321,000 to bring 49 Solar Suitcases to clinics across Mozambique and Madagascar. Our 23 Wild Ride teams and 56 participants went above and beyond, raising an amazing $61,444 of that total. Because of your compassion and energy, more mothers and babies will experience safe deliveries, bright lights, and renewed hope. Stay tuned for a special video celebrating our Wild Ride participants, everything we’ve accomplished together!

This week's Alongside Hope information reading:  Solar Suitcases -- Yes, I want to help to bring light to health centers in Mozambique and Madagascar.

Dear Parishioner:
“I too loved helping mothers through their labour and delivery, even one time here at home in the middle of the night.”
These are the words of a retired Canadian nurse, one of our generous supporters, who deeply understands the sacred, fragile moment of childbirth.
She read about Nurse Itelvina in Mozambique, delivering babies in total darkness. She remembered her own calling. And she chose to give.
You can too.
Please give now to bring light.
Right now, many health centres in Mozambique and Madagascar have no reliable electricity. When emergencies strike at night - complicated deliveries, hemorrhages, newborns struggling to breathe - nurses must rely on flashlights or wait for sunrise.
But you can help bring light.
Your gift today will help send a solar suitcase, a compact lighting system powered by the sun, to clinics that need it most. This simple, solar powered kit brings safe, reliable light, so that no nurse has to work in the dark, labouring women are better cared for, and babies have the best possible start in life.
Even better, every dollar you give will be matched, up to $150,000 until October 31.
Thanks to donors like you, since our first installations of solar suitcases in 2016, more than 80,000 babies have been safely delivered in off-grid clinics with a solar suitcase, many in the middle of the night.
You’ve walked alongside others in their hour of need. Will you do so again today?
With hope,
Will Postma
Executive Director, Alongside Hope
P.S. Your gift will go twice as far today - lighting up delivery rooms, restoring dignity, and saving lives. If you’ve ever cared for someone in the dark of night, you know how much light matters. Let’s bring it together. Call

SHAMBA stands for ‘Self Help Action to Mitigate the Burden of AIDS’ in Eswatini, formerly Swaziland. Our mission is to promote the rights of children from economically disadvantaged AIDS affected households by providing quality early childhood education and care.
SHAMBA currently works with 4 communities in the Highveld to provide effective programming for their most disadvantaged children. We do this through our Preschools, Parenting and Play Groups, Afterschool Clubs, Community Gardens, Health Clinics and Teacher Training.
Over the last 14 years, SHAMBA has grown into a successful community-based NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) that makes a real difference in the lives of some of the most disadvantaged children and families in Eswatini.
Please donate through the Parish of St Peter’s to this very worthwhile program helping some of the most vulnerable children in the world. Your generosity is appreciated.

The Lions Club is happy to accept donations of used eye glasses and hearing aids. Please bring them along to any of our churches to be collected later. SMB Lions Club have the following equipment available for loan, free of charge, to members of the community: Chair Lifts, Wheelchairs, Hospital Beds, Walkers, Crutches, Canes, Bath/Shower chair accessories.(https://e-clubhouse.org/sites/stmargaretsbay/)
